Key Stage 3

What will I learn Year KS3 ?

In Key Stage 3 students study Spanish as a Modern Foreign Language. In each topic in KS3 Spanish you will gain additional vocabulary, along with grammatical structures to enable you to understand and communication in the four skill areas of speaking, reading, listening and writing. You will also develop a range of transferable, cross-curricular skills through the study of Spanish. These include but are not limited to; cultural awareness, literacy, phonics, numeracy, memorisation techniques, description, narration and inferring meaning.

What will I learn Year 7 ?

Over the course of year 7 you will cover several topics:

  • My World – Introducing yourself and talking about basic likes and dislikes, your family and pets
  • Family -Describing your family and where you live
  • Hobbies – Describing what you do in your free time and the weather
  • School – Describing school, subjects and the school day and giving reasons for your opinions
  • Future plans – Describing your town and your plans for the weekend

What will l learn Year 8 ?

In year 8 you will continue to build on the skills and vocabulary you have gained from year 7 and you will also develop expressing your opinions on topics with more detail and learn to use the past tense and combine past, present and future tenses to narrate events.

Over the course of Year 8 you will cover several topics:

  • Past holidays – Using the past tense to describe a holiday
  • Summer holidays – Using the past, present and future tenses to describe holidays
  • Food and drink – Describing food and drink and routines
  • Out and about – Making arrangements to go out and excuses

What will I learn Year 9 ?

In Year 9 you will cover a range of topics to help you build on your knowledge of Spanish grammar and enhance your vocabulary. You will practise all four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Year 9 Spanish lessons will support you in preparing for the GCSE course and give you confidence in applying key grammar rules such as using past, present and future tenses and expressing opinions and reasons using adjectives.

Over the course of year 9 you will cover several topics:

  • Free Time – Talking about your likes and dislikes, your week, films and TV shows and Birthdays
  • Healthy Living – Talking about your active lifestyle, your daily routine, getting fit and ailments
  • Town – Describing your town and what it used to be like
  • Social and Global Issues – Talking about the environment and children’s rights
  • Spanish Customs and GCSE skills – Discussing typical food and drink and ordering in a restaurant

In GCSE Spanish you will be tested in listening, reading, speaking and writing and will develop transferable skills, relevant to further study and the world of work. The range of topics within the specification aims to inspire students who are interested in Spanish culture and Spanish speaking countries. GCSE Spanish has a Foundation Tier (grades 1–5) and a Higher Tier (grades 4–9). You must take all four question papers at the same tier. In Years 10 and 11 you will cover the topics from the 3 main theme areas. As topics overlap you will study a range of topics from the 3 themes over the course of years 10 and 11 and complete revision of all topics in Spring Term of Year 11:
